Sometimes I wonder what's worse. Wondering what's happening and why it takes so long, or banging my head against a keyboard trying to sort out some dreary technical problem when there are a million better ways of spending the time.
A couple of weeks back I decided that things were definitely dragging on too long and it was time for another 'story so far' video. I made one and was pleased with it, using snippets of text from the stories as well as my illustrations. Problem was, YouTube rejected it because it was now too long if they didn't have my mobile phone number (didn't have a mobile phone).
Cut down version turned out to have mysterious and intensely irritating crackles in the sound (maybe I shouldn't have been so fussy). Only recommended answer was uninstalling and reinstalling Picassa (done) but found the problem also cropped up in Movie Maker. Bought a £30 mobile phone expressly to contact YouTube (have no other use for it) and am still learning to use it. Then the video ran into copyright problems because of the (still crackly) soundtrack (I'd only planned to use it briefly in the closed workshop, not 'publicly', have other ideas for final version).
While this has been going on I've also been trying to edit one of my stories for submission, though my attention hasn't really been properly focused. The one good thing has been my taking up electronic cigarettes so I can 'chain smoke' without really smoking!
Completely losing track of time now, but in case you're wondering, with this faffing around, no I haven't forgotten the actual magazine. But yes, it has been time wasting and distracting. Still on the case and hopefully will have better news soon. Oh, and Happy Birthday, Lobo.

No worries Rog. Sometimes I just give up in the face of rapidly moving and generally prohibitive technological innovation - main thing is the magazine - adverts, online flashiness are not so important I think. I actually give up smoking for five days as well - had a short relapse but I'm back in there fighting.

It does feel a bit silly posting this and announcing '3 new drawings' when I did those and stuck them in a video weeks ago, but as I said, there have been problems - still not completely overcome - but we're losing the will to live so here they are, crackly soundtrack and all. As before, you will need to log in to access the link below. click here

Yes I've changed the subject line of this thread again. Reason I do this is so it's obvious it's a new post and saves starting myriad threads which quickly become redundant. The long login periods at this board recently have been to check corrections at the various stories. Yesterday was almost unprecedented in the number of hours I spent working on the magazines. Usually after two or three hours editing or drawing, concentration goes and all I want to do is sleep for an hour. Yesterday I kept going from morning to 11 pm. Today the optimistic mood persists. Still exploring the board for stories that escaped me during absence. I found that Robert Mammone's Widdershins was published in audio form (like one of his earlier stories, The Copse) by Pseudopod. You can download it here. The reader, Frank Key, sounds curiously like D F Lewis, I think (no stranger to audio downloads himself). Personally I'm surprised Rob hasn't appeared in a Black Book yet, but maybe he's favouring the Australian market. Widdershins is also available for Kindle in The Big Book of New Short Horror. Looking at Colin G Leslie's Melting again, it struck me that the matter of having two song titles mentioned in the last paragraph could have been otherwise resolved by making those boots out of Italian Leather. Considering melding the two endings. Something which slowed up editing one of the longer entries (no fault of the author) was a weird anomaly which repeatedly reformatted huge chunks of text to a different size every time I tried resetting a tab stop. Which was every few lines. Tried changing the next few hundred pages to raw text before pasting it back in. This has helped a bit but obviously removed all previous formatting. Another problem has been colouring a cover picture. The cover for FC 6 was coloured quite quickly and easily. Unfortunately, the new one doesn't have such easy planes to work on, it's more textured and the colour needs a different technique. Not to worry, there must be a way around it. Back to work.

I need to ask as I am not sure I have been following things clearly. With the audio promotion of the new F.C in place would I be right in thinking that all the stories that are to be included have been decided?
I am not all to clear on some of the progress of the new F.C mag.

I haven't communicated with him about what he decided but I would say that from past experience normally what you think is in is in. Looking at the promo thing I would say that everything at least mentioned on it is in. But then again Rog didn't mention my serialised story - The Death Tableaux but I assume its in. Sorry if that's not every clear. We should probably make some sort of announcements and indications to authors. Over to you Rog. Also conversely maybe authors should say if they DON'T want a story in and are only trying out ideas.

Totally understandable. FC sort of just comes out I'm afraid. When I was getting in it I never really knew much when or if I was in it.

With the audio promotion of the new F.C in place would I be right in thinking that all the stories that are to be included have been decided? I am not all to clear on some of the progress of the new F.C mag. OK, James, first the video promotion. Each one of those privately posted vids have been a bit longer and with more content, more drawings and, with the last, extracts from authors stories. These have been like video progress updates. As people seemed to like the illustrations I decided to illustrate all the stories. Truth is I've forgotten how many sketches I've done this year. Ambivalent feelings about said sketches as (a) I find them incredibly hard work, long and tedious to do, and constantly frustrating as I can never exactly reproduce the picture in my head, but (b) I like the final results, too! As for "Would I be right in thinking that all the stories that are to be included have been decided?" I would say No. Bear in mind two points: (1) I decided I was going to keep FC (whatever it's name) going till we'd completed the two novel serializations, and (2) that being the case, more short stories will be needed to fill the magazines. Another point: We've never previously had more than two issues of FC a year. And I'm putting together two issues at the same time here. Rog is that the hard end of the business doing the drawings and sorting out the printing. I haven't communicated with him about what he decided but I would say that from past experience normally what you think is in is in. Looking at the promo thing I would say that everything at least mentioned on it is in. But then again Rog didn't mention my serialised story - The Death Tableaux but I assume its in. Also conversely maybe authors should say if they DON'T want a story in and are only trying out ideas. Thanks for that, Craig, and I should have stayed more in touch with you. A while back the combination of working here in what feels like almost total isolation, frustration with the usual idiot management of College Housekeeping (I'm a college cleaner), led to another outburst of my notorious temper at said management, and the only reason I still have a job is because they think I'm nuts anyway (I love my job and the management's PC toothlessness! ). Less amusing was my realizing I really was losing it again and falling off the wagon as a result of the frustration, which is a bit of a bitch since I'd been teetotal for a year but now have to start all over again. Damn damn damn, etc. Even more frustrating was Google+ saying that they didn't believe 'Rog Pile' was a real name (why would anyone pretend their name was Rog Pile???), and 'Filthy Creations' contravened their standards as it's 'lewd'. So far they refuse to accept that either of these names might be names by which I'm known to others despite my posting them links to web pages which demonstrate exactly that. The answer will probably only be to unlink my YouTube account from Google+. In the meantime have upgraded my internet account so that I can upload a number of quite rare full length movies (including Lorre's Mad Love/Hands of Orlac (most of these still held 'private') the intention being to make them public, thus raising my YouTube account's profile before posting the final promotional videos. Think that's it. If you read all this, give yourselves a at on the back! Just found a YouTube video about forum upgrades in my inbox, but it seems to be private/admin only so it can't be posted on the site (which isn't particularly helpful). I've tried.

A second attempt to post this video about the forum upgrade succeeded. Now you know as much as I do... but don't expect to be fascinated.
