In case the whole subject line doesn't appear, it should read "With a bit of luck, this thread will be for FC8". Why do I always feel like a truant trying to slip inconspicuously into class as the register is being read? Fantastically busy summer, with both house and college turned upside down as changes have been made, but the exercise has left me fitter than I was. I got online today to find a several days old email from a gent who works in an American library and also reviews fiction for the Durham Herald, who's asked for a review copy of FC 7. I'll be posting that today when I go into town for a dentist's appointment. As I've reached a stage where I can move around rooms without falling over planks and paint cans, I should be able to get back to things now. Yesterday saw the arrival of the BSF Journal, which is the first thing that's arrived since I rejoined. It's very interesting, with fiction and articles, many that appeal to me - and I was pleased to see that Rob Holdstock's had an award named after him (for best fantasy novel). No small-press reviews, though. Pleased also to see the first full review of Horror Without Victims. Ironic in a way that the Des Lewis horror anthology which ousted the sadistic stand-bys on which much horror depends actually turned out to be such a ground-breaking collection. And Craig gets a Datlow! Ellen Datlow's Long List for Best Horror. Craig is probably the only person surprised to see his name on Ms Datlow's list. Congrats, pal. Must get on. Tempus fugit. The only French I know...

I just think your opinions are very valuable to us and its just a pleasure to have you around. Real life intrudes though and its impossible to do anything meaningful artistically and combine it with decorating or shifting furniture - we're not all Charles Dickens who could write with kids sitting on his lap in a room full of noise.

Thanks for the congratulations. i don't think I'm a bad writer really - although like everyone I scream and cry at the glaring faults that appear only after you submit things. I'm mostly surprised that the kind of thing I write got acknowledged.
That's one thing I should stress for our newest member, nightmare, perseverance. You've just got to keep at it.

Congrats Craig.
Cal, good luck with that. Hope the review'll go along swimmingly.
And I should probably stop trying to sound British.

On a more cheerful note than my post yesterday, I started and completed most of another illustration at lightning speed yesterday. I think the anger and stress of the past months helped in a way, because I'd made some earlier attempts at the drawing before all the shit at the College blew up, but those attempts just hadn't worked.
Hell of a lot of time to make up and still feeling bloody furious (realized at one point recently that I was in danger of laying myself open to a case of Defamation of Character which could have lost me my house if I hadn't retracted a document in time - get a part time job at Cornwall College, be harassed for years and lose all you have - lovely!) Try and take it out in the next drawing.

Great to see you here, Rog. Sorry to hear about the trouble. Des Hi Des, everyone. Sorry about the last two downbeat and near-maniacal posts. I'm obviously in a job which doesn't suit me, or possibly any thinking person. This should be a holiday, a time for rest, but obviously isn't; there's no break from whatever's going on. Trying to find some way back to focusing on creative stuff again. Just have to keep at it. The only way there ever is. Wonder what else there is here to comment on.

It's always the way I suppose I wonder if I should add 'translator' to my credit as editor? Think carefully before answering. (I wonder if they'd pay me more.)
