The small press horror fiction magazine Filthy Creations came about when members of a board, Vault of Evil - Anthology Hell, lovers of pulp horror fiction, began writing their own stories and wanted to see them in print.
Filthy Creations is not an eZine. The general feeling was that it should be produced on paper, and was printed in my home from fiction that usually appeared first in the workshop of Vault of Evil. I co-edit the magazine with Steve Goodwin.
Time passed and the amount of posts on creative writer eventually exceeded those on 'seventies pulp fiction; also, more and more writers joined the site and, not unnaturally, began plugging their own books.
At the time of writing this, the problems perceived as causing an imbalance at the Vault have not been resolved. As one possible answer, I've created this site for those creative writers and artists, hopefully taking the strain from Vault of Evil.
We'll just have to learn as we go on, with this one, and hopefully I'll be able to correct technical details like appropriate avatars and subboards, before too long.
Finally, for now, welcome to The Workshop of Filthy Creation.

Rog and everyone else - re Rog's question (on the Introductions thread) about what to put here on this forum. I've been thinking .. (always dangerous! ;D) If this is to be a "sister site" to the Vault (and I hope it does work as complementary to the Vault and not in competition), maybe you need to speak to Dem about where the Vault is going before deciding where to go here? He's going to be doing some maintenance in the Vault shortly - merging threads and rationalising things a bit (but not deleting things - he appreciates all the hard work people have put in) - so maybe you and he need to get together and decide on this so that we all know what goes where? Frankly I'm still pretty confused about what should/shouldn't be in the Vault. Dem told me to go on posting new stuff, chatty stuff, events, etc - but surely that would simply continue to aggravate those who complained? So, I'd say you and he need to get together, decide what goes where, so that we all know where we are with this. I'm still totally confused at the moment!

I'm confused, too.

Maybe it's just us, Des! I'm glad I'm not confused on my own anyway!

I think I'm a bit confused too. But I think I might also understand a little more of the confusion, having reread the original premise for the vault.
Its clear that that its parameters while vague, were definitely not the amorphous talk shop it became. It was all about
The Pan Horror series, Fontana Horrors & Ghosts, Fontana Tales of Terror, and the anthologies of Peter Haining, Michel Parry, Hugh Lamb and other excellent compilers of forgotten horror stories.
And Dem wanted this
There's also a section for::
Nel horror novels, Similar trash horror offerings (from Sphere, Mayflower and co.) Nel non-horrors (Skinhead, Hells Angel novels, etc)
But this was only an also - the hub was the first part.
There was absolutely no mention of new horror.
I think we could all understand that authors who were inspired by or writing in the style of the ancient genre would gradually do this and Dem and co would be churlish if not down right daft not to be interested in that initially. But centrally, the point of the Vault was lost when the new authors begin to promote their own stuff in the manner that we all did. (A purely natural progression)
I can see from this that Filthy Creations was a great little idea initially - it seems such a natural development - but latterly in combination with the the rest (I include myself as much as anyone) it just mutated from the central point of the vault.
I personally think that Rog's decision to simply cut out of the vault and set up a distinct writers group focus around the magazine is just a good and simple idea. Works for the vault and works for the writers.
What is abundantly clear is that a bunch of decent people who share a general interest in Horror etcetera (and apparently have no or little social life ;D) have all been brought together by the Vault and now can have fun at both. it's not competitive or conflicting. Its just like we' have another house next door that's good for partys.

I think this is great for the development and growth of Filthy Creations a dedicated forum will draw people in and build further upon the progress it's already made. What is important is that it will not just encourege new writers to contribute but new readers which without F.C would die. Where do you stand on using this forum to shed light on new Horror collections Rog because if it's something The Vault doesn't take favour with I don't see a reason why one sub-forum here could be dedicated to it. * Stupid me just saw that section on the forum....great stuff Rog

I'm likely to be turfed off the computer soon, but I've added some mass-market fiction reviews after more discussion and thought (we need some fun here as well as all the promotion - further explanation is on the 'introduce yourself' thread).
I've added six avatars hopefully more appropriate for this site - more will come tomorrow. Possibly David Riley and Charles Black would be interested in the Satyr's Head and Black Book avatars for their own - I'll try to provide the relevant book covers for those members who have books published.
Possibly log in again later, but if not, then tomorrow. Stuff to do here...

I've just been experimenting and found I could add avatars to members profiles. Maybe I shouldn't; people like to sort out their own. Maybe I need a co-admin member; this is all a bit new to me!
I'll leave it to you, but let me know if there's a problem.

I've tried copying and pasting two activation keys -- and it said that both were invalid. I'm not having any luck with this site!

Yes, the image is too big. The ideal size for an avatar is 65 x 65 pixels. I've now reduced it in Photoshop and added it as the last of the site's presently selectable avatars. (I tried 90 x 90 pixels as it looked a bit crowded and removed the title at the top, but can replace that if you want it (?) Like I said, I decided not to do any more messing around with the site or profiles unless specifically asked. I just want to add categories and boards as needed (a 'questions' board seems needed) and make posts along with others - in fact I'm thinking of logging in as a member when no 'maintenance ' is needed; it looks too easy to cause accidents in administrator mode. Yes, you will be in FC5, Peter. There are some mistakes I've made already. I changed most of the boards to 'members only' for posting, as the Vault did. But I forgot to do that with the 'introduce yourself' and 'about this site' threads - with the result that Des made a post as a guest. I have no idea why weirdmonger shows up now as a 'full member' while others are 'new members'. And if anyone knows why some members have 'karma' and if that's bad or good, please let me know. I haven't a clue about that! I imagine it's unnecessary anyway.

.. with the result that Des made a post as a guest before registering as a member. I have no idea why he shows up now as a 'full member' while others are 'new members'. Des first registered as weirdmonger and posted over 100 posts in the Small Press Cover Ark - that's why he's now a "full member"! But I wasn't sure why he then posted as a guest. Come back to us Des - we need you! I'm afraid I've no idea what that "karma" thing is about. There seems to be some buttons you can press to give people's posts "karma" or something else (negative) which I've forgotten as I haven't got it in front of me. Seems pointless to me - all posts are very worthwhile as far as I'm concerned. Rog - is the bit where we can post stories (and artwork) now "members only"? We obviously don't want anyone looking in and nicking things.
