Thanks for that Craig. The story was going to originally appear in the straight horror magazine, night Chills #2, but the editor decided to move it to Encounters, which is a mix of sci fi, horror and fantasy. Had no idea it was going to inspire the cover, but thrilled that it has. Hopefully the story lives up to the cover!

After reading one of your stories, Robert, I'm not too surprised that it's inspired the cover. What I particularly liked about your story here was the careful attention to detail, which can add that professional finish. I've just been browsing the Black Matrix catalogue. It's very well presented, allowing one to read the first story in a magazine online. This publisher looks very interesting; I just hope that they don't overreach themselves.

Congrats, Robert. Making the cover is no small feat. Thanks Stephen. The story itself had a long-ish writing time - I found I wrote the last scene first, then backtracked to the beginning. I despaired of it several times - I'd love for it to be a bit shorter than it is, but found it difficult to find where it needed to be hacked into without causing a lot of damage to the story itself. Looking back, I think the start goes on a bit too long, but I suppose I was going for mood more than anything else. A bit sad to report that writing about spiders has done nothing to diminish my arachnophobia. Fortunately, we're moving into Autumn, so the little blighters are hunkering down for the cooler weather. Mostly...

Fantastic news. Well done. I received my contributor copies about a month ago - very large box for just two magazines, but there you go! They're really very professional looking - perfectly bound, glossy colour cover, black and white text - no internal illustrations. Despite the fact they don't pay, they're a market I'll keep an eye on in future for further contributions.
