On the 28th of this month all ProBoards will have the option to upgrade to ProBoards version 5. I've no idea what difference that will make, but new software could be good, or then again maybe not. There's deep for you!
I must admit I've seen features in other forums which are very useful, so I'm inclined to go ahead with it.
Franklin, would you mind if we moved your new story thread into the locked workshop? You probably missed the discussion but we were thinking that in the past we've given too much away before magazine publication. And some other Editors will automatically turn down anything that's been publicly posted.
In the meantime, for anyone who chooses to 'lurk' rather than log in, bear in mind you'll be missing some posts as if you're not logged in, you won't see those posts on the 'most recent' thread.
I'll be moving my own stories into the locked workshop. If anyone has any queries or personal preferences on subjects touched on here please just post to this thread or PM either Craig or myself.
Ta.

I'm leaning to the idea of removing the public writing section of the forum but leaving up a couple of examples of the type of thing we're doing. Anyone else think this might be a good idea?
We could change the title to 'an idea of what goes on in the workshop' or the like. I'm just getting a sort of crossfire of public private.

We could change the title to 'an idea of what goes on in the workshop' or the like. I'm just getting a sort of crossfire of public private. Seems like a good idea to me, Craig. Sorry, I missed this post until now. There are definitely posts in the open workshop which there's no advantage restricting, e.g. links to other sites where fiction or downloads are posted. I guess we don't want to limit members' use of this site too much either, though if a story becomes too public that naturally affects our inclination to print it. Any Editor would say that. Offhand I can think of two or three external sites that would benefit from being permanently publicly linked (I might have to ask Demonik's advice on this if I can't figure it myself - he has several sites linked that way at Vault). We can change the title of the open workshop as you suggest (I'll do that after this post). 'Open Workshop' probably fits. Possibly you've noticed the changes I've made to the 'news fader' (the 'banner' at the top of forum) which now has a changing message for the benefit of people who might not have used forums with restricted areas. I just found that the 'move' tag works for the message linking to the restricted workshop, so that's a little more eye-catching now, too. I've just applied for a 'key' so that I can get some idea what the new ProBoards 5 Beta version looks like. Whether anyone else will be able to see this sneak peak, I don't know. Probably not. Hope that 'crossfire's' not too intense. I need to check whether I replied to your last PM or sent something via email - I definitely get phased when both are in use!

Don't know if this will work for others but the link below provided me with a look at the new ProBoards 5 version. filthycreations.freemessageboards.com/Craig, also sent a link in your email. Navigation seems improved. This forum might 'slow down' (it definitely is!) while the conversion process is going on - so far nothing permanent has been done, and apparently this forum will still remain even after a Beta version clone is created.
