I have finally joined the 21st century and set up a blog. It isn't much at the moment, to be honest, but I plan to ramble on about things that interest me whenever the mood strikes. Do feel free to drop by. jameslecky.blogspot.com/

Looks good, Jim! I've been thinking for a few months of setting up some kind of website or blog - mainly to be able to link to my interviews, plug my editing things, and also my odd little bits of flash fiction dotted around the place. For example, the first two bits of fiction I had published were only online for a few months - they don't get archived on that site at all - so it seems a shame that they've just vanished into the ether! But I'm not at all technically minded and, while I did a little bit of initial investigation into what I might do, I've not had the chance to sort anything out yet. What "blogging thing" (you can tell how much I know about these things!) are you using, Jim, and is it easy to use/set up?

It's fairly easy to do (which explains how I was able to do it). If you set yourself up with a googlemail account - mail.google.com - you'll get not only a google email account but also access to blogs and stuff like that. After you create an account, go to www.blogger.com and just follow the step-by-step instructions. It's very simple to post text, pictures and videos 'cos they've made it extremely user friendly.

I've made a new section for members to post links to their own sites, here: Members Sites. At time of writing this it's new and as yet without any posts in it. I think the 'Blogspot' blogs were always good, mercifully free of the advertising that spoils MySpace, and since Google became involved, naturally they've improved. Add to this, if you get a "Multiply" blog, like this one: Voices in a Dolls House - then you can import all the content of the Blogger/Blogspot blog into the Multiply one at the click of a button. Instant cloning! That's how that one was made, anyway. I suppose it can still be done. Multiply has a similar befriending system to MySpace or Facebook, but again, without that goddawful pushy advertising.

Coral - you put me to shame! I spend MONTHS thinking about creating some kind of internet presence for myself, and you go and set up a blog in 5 minutes flat! I will get around to it - eventually ...

Te-he! You're not going to believe it, but I've set one up too! There's nothing much on it at the moment - just links to TTMC and Pantechnicon - but my aim is to put links to all my stories and interviews out there on the internet. That sounds a little big-headed, but it's not intended that way. I just feel it's nice to have everything I've had published "under one roof" so to speak. BTW you folks are good at this sort of thing. How is it that the urls I've posted in that first blog entry don't actually work as direct links to the sites concerned? Do I need to do something to them to make them do that? Of course, people can always cut and paste, but it'd be nice if they were direct links. Oh, the url of my blog? oldhorror.blogspot.com/

It's super, make sure you follow my blog so I look important, I've followed yours. The link icon is in the tool bar at the top of the "posting" box. Jaqhama, you don't have a follow link?

Hey, you were quick off the mark Coral! I suddenly noticed I had a "follower"! I'll see if I can suss out how to do the same with yours. Any ideas on why my urls aren't coming out as proper links?

Yup, paste the url into the body of your post, then highlight it. Then click on the "link" icon in the tool bar at the top of the posting box and a little box will pop up for you to paste the url into. When you've done that, the url you pasted into the body of the post is now a link. The link icon is hard to see, so pass the cursor over the icons until you find it xx

Oh, the url of my blog? oldhorror.blogspot.com/Nice one, Caroline. We'll have to link it from the other Blogger blogs here. Links: Below is a snapshot I just made of two sorts of links. The first line shows the way a link is made here, using BB code. Below that is a straightforward HTML link - which you'll need to use in your blog. You can change the usual 'Click here' bit to any words you like, or just paste in the url again. You can also insert an image in that bit to click on if you like, instead of text.

It's OK folks - I've done it! I spotted that little link icon Coral was talking about and it worked!
OK now I've got something else on there too (the link to the interview I did with Des) I'll put it in the right place on this forum!
Oh, I've added myself as a follower to your blog, Coral, and also Jim's - anyone else here want to do a reciprocal arrangement?

Oh heck - now I've realised that the links to both the TTMC sites, and also Des' site for my interview with him, don't actually work from my blog for some reason! The Pantechnicon one does - but that site's currently down anyway!
Damn! Anyway, can't do anything now - must go and do the washing up. I'll try and sort it out tomorrow. Any thoughts on why they're not working for me would be gratefully received.
