I haven't done much posting the past couple of days as I've been up to other things, but in case it looks like this place is minus its... minus its what? Admin? Caretaker? I prefer Demonik's "Janitor of Lunacy" but he claimed that title first.
Anyway...
I've accepted the first story for FC 6 and been editing it.
Just been looking at other possibles for inclusion. Places I've been looking include Thomas Ligotti online and the old workshop at the Vault, as well as here.
Been packing probably the last of the FC 5s and TTMC 1s for posting (a bundle has gone out every few days). Feelings about FC 5 remain complex. I still can't stand back and feel objective about it, but when I flip through the various stories, I feel reassured and glad it's out there.
Last night finished reading Charles Black's The Fifth Black Book of Horror, and unsurprisingly have come to the conclusion that it's a winner. Will continue writing it up ASAP. It's as good as any anthology from days of yore.
Yesterday ordered Dan McGachey's They That Dwell in Dark Places and am looking forward to its arrival.
Have been working on a story, a collaboration. I'd always wanted to write a Lovecraftian piece, and this gave me the opportunity.

Speaking of which and apologies for senility but how much does FC and TMC cost and can I use paypal? If people pay, £2 would do it. One of the other things I was doing over the past couple of days was reactivating my PayPal account, which I hadn't used in a year or two. Next I'll have to figure out the 'pay' button thing. Stay tuned to this frequency, etc.

FC5 is brill and the alternative cover to TTMC1 is superb!

Sometimes I think I'm the most easily distracted person in the world. I've been going to send a message of thanks several times - the first time when I started making sure I'd added all other bloggers here to mine (I think I've still not got to Noah's, though only today it dawned on me that I should check in Members Sites. Doh! ) My excuse is, I'm usually trying to cram a day's web-stuff into a couple of hours when I finally get the chance before I fall asleep. Anyway, yes, and thanks. Think I should add another update here, but I'll make it a separate post.

As I said, the first story for FC 6 has been accepted. I've been trying to contact one workshop member about another story. Magazine illustrations will in future probably need to be in pen and ink, so I'll need to start practising that. The reason is that the professionally printed mags have black and white interiors; only contributors got the home-printed copies with colour. Pencil drawings leave a little to be desired, I think, in stark black and white. The fascination of putting together a small-press magazine never leaves me, even though it's had me crawling up the walls with frustration and horribly depressed when I see my bank balance crawling under a rock. But the excitement is still there, and I still feel there's unexplored potential in FC. We've had short stories, Franklin Marsh's Horror on Dreadstone Moor serial, the Showcase section for extracts from long fiction on the net, this issue featuring P F Jeffery's Odalisque; illustrations, mini-articles/adverts (Ade Salmon's The Faceless); and Charles Black's interview with Pan Horror author Ian Strachan. I'd still like to include a 'classic' public domain story, in the tradition of other mass-market magazines. Just an hour ago I found a web page on my desktop which had a quote from Demonik to the effect that the anthology pictured below was long overdue for reappraisal. So a story from that, perhaps? It's a possibility. I'd also like to see an in-depth review of a brand new book. Providing FC remains a vehicle for new stories, it seems to me there are a lot of ways to expand the appeal.

I have a couple of things on the boil one nearly finished but in need of a big edit the other has recently been started but will not be in need of such a mass edit. I will let you know when one or both are done so that you might consider one of them for F.C 6
