I quote:
Something strange is taking place here.
You'll never experience anything quite the same way after visiting
Silver Pine Press. An eclectic blend of artists gathers here eager to
display their craft. Venture further and you'll find erotic beauty,
twisted day dreams, and nightmares etched carefully in word and photos.
We gather our friends closely because the nights are chilly and the
shadows draw near.
Silver Pine Press Submissions
Silver Pine Press seeks stories between the following 10,000 to 75,000
word counts for Electronic and Audio Book publication. Only original,
previously unpublished works will be accepted at this time.
Our contracts ask for audio and electronic rights for a period of one
year. Royalty payment is 40% of retail sales price for electronic books
and 30% for audiobooks. You can view our contract here.
Characters are the back bone to Silver Pine Press books. The men and
women starring in these stories are thick and rich in development with
problems, idiosyncrasies, foibles and a three dimensional physicality.
Alpha characters must have chinks in their proverbial armor unless they
are superhuman to begin with. In which case, they need to have some
Achilles tendon that their counterpart exposes. Imagine a painting
brought to life with color and bold brush strokes that steals your
breath and makes you pause. The attraction between characters should be
a catalyst and thunderous booming on a near cosmic level that both
pushes and pulls the pair in a multitude of direction before finally
resulting in a wondrous denouement.
Plot components should be clever and unexpected. Control your plot with
design and careful crafting presenting the reader with high expectations
the kind of tale they long for and will rave about for months. Consider
the masters of the storytelling craft in all medias like Alfred
Hitchcock, Edgar Allan Poe, Daphne du Maurier when using your pen.
Employ the eclectic charm of Tim Burton and the underlying menace that
Wes Craven uses and you will find a home for your work at Silver Pine
Press.
Paranormal: The popularity of the Paranormal genre seems to grow yearly
due to the genre's unique ability to pull from myths, legends and
folklore from cultures all over the world. Exploring these rich pools
for stories would make a very intriguing submission.
Silver Pine Press accepts the usual Vampires, Werewolves, and Witches
presented in original, intense, and vibrant ways. They are currently
very popular in the mainstream. These creatures can be either hero or
villain.
Rituals, magic, ghost hunting, exorcists, psychic phenomena, and
hauntings, are elements authors need in their bags of tricks. Blending
folklore with ancient religions allows authors to blend realities and
heighten the senses. Research these aspects and weave them into your
characters and plot lines.
Science Fiction: Time and Space travel has resurfaced as a viable
option for television and film that easily translates into novels.
Technology, engineering, and fringe sciences are superior elements to
color a landscape. Development and structure are key to making these
stories entertaining and believable. Toys and gimmicks shouldn't
overshadow the characters or distract them from their ultimate goal.
Military aspects work very well with Science Fiction. Futuristic
soldiers, DNA manipulation, biological mutations, and Black Ops are good
partners for this genre.
UFOs and Alien abductions need to be played straight in order to work.
The more realistic the picture, the more involved readers are. This
element mixes well with the contemporary sub-category.
Fantasy: Sword and Sorcery played out in the magical realms of the
author's imagination. Wizards devoted to magic, battle tested
warriors fighting for the greater good or those seeking the ultimate
prize scratch the surface of the kind of stories Silver Pine Press would
like to see.
If you are a fan of MMO games, then you'll understand what we're
all about. The adventure, the sweat, and blood, as your warrior beats
down the predatory beast. The absolute obsession from your heroes as
they try to achieve the quest. We aren't looking for fan fiction so
create your own magic users and villages. Alternative races,
otherworldly settings are the stuff legends are made of. Create a
legend.
Horror: Subtle psychological terror and/or full blown mania help the
set up and delivery for any horror tale. Dark settings, monsters under
the bed and impossible odds that chip away at the character's
resolve always work. Throwing the characters to the wolves and letting
them fight their way out a well designed trap will trip any horror fan.
Occult and supernatural themes can drive the plot but shouldn't
sustain it. It can be the cause but not the effect or the end result.
Replacing life with death and destruction leave the characters little
options. A crafty author will need to be on their game to manipulate
them to a satisfactory and believable conclusion.
