Way back before we gave up with Gruesome Cargoes, I was thinking of a Weird Tales thread, but couldn't really do it because GC covered predominantly British publications.
It would be pointless trying to clone a dedicated Weird Tales site, but I don't see any harm in an WT occasional post here. Let's face it, some of the stories are still being reprinted today. Actually, that was what intrigued me - the idea of locating those stories in reprint anthologies.
This story and author listing shows a few familiar names. But disturbingly, I don't recognise a single story as existing in my collection!
June 1929
Hugh Rankin cover
Contents:
The House of Golden Masks - Seabury Quinn
The Abysmal Invaders - Edmond Hamilton
The World Wrecker - Arlton Eadie
Black Tancrede - Henry S Whitehead
The Mouse Legend - Alvin F Harlow
The Last of the Mayas - Arthur Thatcher
Battle of Bones - Robert E Howard
When the Sea Gives Up Its Dead - Robert Peery
The Rosicrucian Lamp - Stephen Bagby
The House on the Highway - August W Derleth
The Legend of Denarius - Louis Sarno
The Wind That Tramps the World - Frank Owen
With this December issue (below), there are a couple of stories still with us. W C Morrow's The Monster Maker appeared in Peter Haining's Beyond the Curtain of the Dark (1966), while George Elliot's The Copper Bowl appeared of course in The First Pan Book of Horror (1959) and another Haining anthology, Unspeakable People, (1969).
Probably others recognise more titles than I do...
